DISCUSSION: The author collected American 18th century tomahawks and
related items. His pictures of many examples are augmented by an essay,
“The Iron Trade Axe and Tomahawk”, by Richard Pohrt. A most useful work.

DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 5.5”x8.5”, 112 pages, black & white and line
illustrations.

CONDITION NOTES: Minor wear, but otherwise clean and nice, with a tight
binding.

Published by the Museum of the American Indian, Heye Foundation, in 1971.
Revised edition.

DISCUSSION: A detailed and important study which includes a history of the
form and its types, as well as sections discussing simple hatchets,
Missouri war hatchets, spontoon tomahawks, halberd tomahawks, spiked
tomahawks, tomahawks with hammer polls, celtiform tomahawks, pipe
tomahawks, and Naval boarding axes. Includes a directory of makers and
dealers, and an appendix- “The Blacksmith Shop” by Milford G. Chandler.
The core work on this subject.

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 7”x10”, 142 pages with line illustrations plus 2
color and 97 black & white plates. Bookplate of a noted collector on the
pastedown.
