(SANGER, Margaret) LADER, Lawrence. THE MARGARET SANGER STORY AND THE
FIGHT FOR BIRTH CONTROL. Garden City: Doubleday & Company, 1955. First
Edition. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by Margaret Sanger on the half-title page
and dated 24 March 1955: "to Carolyn Speiden/with my love/and
admiration/for her courage &/Vision----/Ever devotedly/Margaret S.
Sanger." Adhesive from small bookplate on the front pastedown. Very Good
in a soiled, worn dustwrapper with a chip at the head of the spine.
Margaret Sanger, the originator of the phrase "birth control" and its
best-known advocate, sought to create equality between the sexes by
freeing women from what she saw as sexual servitude. She survived
Federal indictments, a brief jail term, numerous lawsuits, and hundreds
of street-corner rallies and raids on her clinics to live to see much of
the world accept her view that family planning is a basic human right.
