(NATURAL HISTORY) Klein, Jakob Theodor. NATURALIS DISPOSITIO
ECHINODERMATUM... Edita et Descriptionibus Novisque Inventis et
Synonymis Auctorum Aucta a Nathanaele Godofredo Leske... Leipzig: Ex
Officina Gleditschiana. 1778. Lg. 4to. (6),xx,(2),278,(2)pp. Plus 54
leaves of hand colored plates, some with engraved text. Bound in 19th
century full tan calf, gilt spine, with red morocco label. Hinges a bit
rubbed, but overall a lovely copy, with a few scholarly marginal notes
in pencil.	$3,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
The greatly enlarged second edition of this first important study of
Echinodermata – sea urchins and starfish. The first edition of 1734 was
only 78pp. of text and had 34 uncolored plates. Our second edition is,
in effect, an entirely new work containing the additions of Professor
N. G. Leske, continuing Klein's work after his death in 1759, and
publishing this new edition in 1778. Curiously, in the prefatory matter
are bound in (added) two leaves, pages 85-88, in a variant text
version, apparently to cancel the original two leaves, which are still
present. Nissen,
