Metamorphoses.  Two large folio (12" x 17-1/2") volumes bound in 
contemporary vellum.  A splendid and highly desirable edition of Ovid 
with dark impressions of these masterfully engraved plates. --Brunet IV 
285; Lowndes 1744.  Title pages printed in red & black with engraved 
vignettes.  Illustrated with 4 engraved plates and 124 text 
copper-engravings by Bernard Picart, Charles le Brun and several other 
artists.  Latin text with Dutch translation in facing columns by Isaak 
Verburg and notes by Antoine Banier.  Some typical aging to paper but a 
Near Fine set.     $3000
