(Mundel). Kriseller's work contatins a thorough treatment of Italian 
printers' marks. In all 351 marks are reproduced showing the progress of 
printing in Italy prior to 1525. The material is arranged alphabetically 
by Italian cities. For each city a list of printers is given, including 
works printed prior to 1525, and cross-references with Hain. All the 
known printers' marks for each press are illustrated. All Italian 
cities, from Aquila to Vincenza, where printing was established by 1525 
are included. Kristeller is recognized as one of the foremost 
authorities on early printing in Italy, having authored several other

McMURTRIE, Douglas C. EARLY PRINTING IN MICHIGAN 1796 - 1850.

pages. Reprint of the 1931 Chicago edition. This is a comprehensive 
bibliography of all the issues of the Michigan Press from 1796-1850. In 
pratically every case, the original imprint was examined and described 
by McMurtrie or by his staff. The beginnings of printing in Michigan 
date from the printing of Congressional Acts in Detroit in 1796. In all 
600 issues of the press are meticulously described. Apart from the 
thorough bibliography, McMurtrie also provides a hundred-page narrative 
history describing the spread of printing in Michigan and the 
controversies that arose in relation to printing there. Illlustrated 
with facsimiles of title pages and portraits, this book is notoriously 
difficult to find and has not been available in reprint previously.
