[RYAN, Nolan] BRIGGS, Jennifer et al. NOLAN RYAN. THE AUTHORIZED
PICTORIAL HISTORY. Fort Worth, TX: The Summit Group, (1991). First
Edition. Folio (10" x 12-1/4") in blue boards and dustwrapper.
Illustrated with many photographs, mostly color, of the Hall of Famer. A
brief foreword by then Texas Rangers Managing General Partner George W.
Bush. SIGNED by the all-time strikeout king (Ryan, not Bush) on a
special certificate mounted on the front free endpaper, one of 5308
numbered copies as such, each representing one of Ryan's strikeouts.
This particular copy, ironically, is victim 2329, Lee Stanton, on 25
July 1977. Ryan, incredibly, was the 295th player selected in
professional baseball's first amateur draft in 1965. Selected by the New
York Mets, Ryan would stay with that team until 1971 when he was traded
along with three other players, including Lee Stanton, for infielder Jim
Fregosi. Though Ryan set many records and pitched seven no-hitters, he
never won the coveted Cy Young Award. Publisher's Certificate of
Authenticity included. Fine in a Fine dustwrapper, lacking the slipcase.
(#013140) $200.00
