FS: “IVORIES”

By Alfred Maskell.
Published in London by Methuen in 1905.

DISCUSSION: A standard work, published as part of the Connoisseur's
Library. Maskell covers both Eastern and Western ivories, from ancient
times through the 18th century, with an emphasis on ancient, Medieval and
Renaissance works. The book was written for rich collectors in 1905, so
not much of the material shown is available on the market these days, but
it does give the reader a good grounding in the history of ivory art, and
illustrates and discusses wonderful examples.

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 7.5"x10.5", xiii + 443 pages plus 88 black & white
plates. Engraved book label of Henry William Paget Hoskyns.

CONDITION NOTES: Some cover wear, light internal foxing.

PRICE: $85.00
