Price just reduced: Was $650, Now $350
GUYER, I. D. HISTORY OF CHICAGO; ITS COMMERCIAL AND MANUFACTURING
INTERESTS AND INDUSTRY... Chicago: Church, Goodman & Cushing, 1862.
First Edition. Quarto bound in the publisher's brown cloth; 200 pages.
Howes 468; New Howes 465 "b". A scarce Ante-Fire Imprint with chapters
on numerous industries including bookbinding, dentistry, billiard table
manufacturing, comedy, coffee, furs, beer, railroads, whips, and many
others. With eight full-page plates and a number of text engravings. The
two tinted lithographs are lacking from this copy. The double-page
frontispiece compares a drawing of Chicago in 1820 to a bird's-eye view
of the city in 1862. Included in the pagination are four advertisements
for railroads at the end. The paper is brittle with some leaves partly
detached and a few completely detached, which seems often to be the case
with this title. The edges of the original binding are lightly worn with
the spine tips chipped. A two-inch split occurs at the top of the front
cover where it meets the spine resulting in some looseness to the cover.
A Good copy of a scarce book. (#008286) $350.00
