*POE, Edgar / Traduction Francaise de Stephane Mallarmé** avec
illustrations par Edouard Manet. /LE CORBEAU / THE RAVEN./*
The Easton Press, 1995. Folio.

This is an authorized reproduction of the original 1875 edition held in
the Lessing J. Rosenwald Collection of the Rare Book and Special
Collections Division of the Library of Congress. The text is in French
and English and the book represents a bold, early attempt at a new type
of artistic collaboration: the "livre d'artiste", a
genre which was first to flourish in the twentieth century. The exact
number of copies originally produced is a matter of some dispute, but
the (present) publishers suggest, in the printed notes which accompany
this book, that only about 150 copies of the official edition were
produced. Our copy is designated no. 65, and bears the facsimile
signatures of Mallarmé and Manet on the colophon page. Tipped-in on the
inside front board is a reproduction of Manet's original stone
lithograph of Le Corbeau (The Raven), with the printed words "ex
libris"; thus making it a rather elaborate owner's bookplate (without
any markings of a previous owner). The book is quite large (54 x 36 cm)
and is bound in half dark blue leather over marbled boards. The corners
show very slight wear, else the book is in near fine condition.

Price: $375.00.

Terms of sale: the price is in USD. Payment by check, credit card, or
PayPal. Postage and packing charge is $10 sent anywhere in North
America; $35 sent anywhere else. Returnable within seven days of receipt
if not as described.
