Indochine Française Touristique. Editee par la Revue des Etudes Indochinoises du Tourisme et de l'Automobilisme. Saigon: Litho. C. Ardin, 1924. Wall map, printed in three colors, measuring 56 x 35 cm. (ca 20 x 12 3/4 in.). Creases from folding, small chip from top edge, a few light scattered dimples, ink stamp of "Tourisme Saigon" dated "5 Nov 1925"; otherwise very clean and fresh.

Very uncommon original 1924 tourist map of French Indochina, including Vietnam (Tonkin and Annam), Cambodia (Cambodge) and Laos, as well as portions of Siam, Burma (Burmanie) and China (Chine). Published at the height of the French colonial presence, the map seeks to promote tourism and motoring by highlighting such attractions touristiques as Angkor, Hue, the Rapides des Kemmarat, the Baie d'Along (Ha Long Bay), etc., as well as by indicating some rudimentary topography, rivers, railroad lines and motorways, including routes en voie d'achevement (under construction). On the reverse of the map is the small ownership ink stamp of Woodbridge Bingham (1901-1986), pioneer scholar in Chinese studies, eldest son of explorer Hiram Bingham (of Machu Picchu fame) and for fifty years professor of East Asian history at the University of California, Berkeley.
