Stevenson. A few small repairs on verso. (Page was an intimate friend of Jefferson; he served with Washington in the French and Indian War.) $250



RAILROAD.  CASSATT, ALEXANDER J.  Cut signature, Yours truly, A. J. Cassatt, Gen[era]l Manager [of the Penna. Railroad.] (Cassatt greatly improved and enlarged the Pennsy in the N.Y.C. area and elsewhere. His sister was Mary Cassatt

who painted his portrait and with whom he was quite close.) $25

ARTHUR, T.S.      Autograph note signed, Philadelphia, 5 x 7-1/2 inches, Aug. 13th, 1858, to New Jersey historian, James P. Snell.  “I have yours ... & send Home Mag[azine] in exchange, with pleasure. A notice of the work ... will be regarded as a full equivalent. . .”  (Arthur is best remembered as the author of the best-selling and influential novel, “Ten Nights in a Bar-Room” and as a friend of Poe. He edited and published “Arthur’s Home Magazine” for many years.) $75

MARINE WATERCOLOR PAINTING by JAMES HAMILTON of 2 sailing vessels, one stranded on a shoal and listing,  5-1/2 x 8 inches,mounted on board. Unsigned and undated, BUT: On verso of board: “To Mrs. Clifford Lewis, July 5th, 1877” and in another hand: ”Watercolor by James Hamilton, made in my presence. P. S. P. Conner.” (Clifford Lewis was a cousin of the artist, Edmund Darch Lewis. In later years, he occupied the former home of his brother, Edmund Lewis, a noted art collector. Edmund Darch Lewis’s  sister was married to Philip Syng Physick Conner, a nephew of the famous Phila. doctor. (These Philadelphians seldom dropped far from the tree.) James Hamilton, born in Ireland, is credited with painting one of the first American seascapes in 1868. ALTHOUGH FEW OF HIS SEASCAPES HAVE
