ROBERTS, WILLIAM, [1767-1849].  STORY OF EUGENIO AND AMELIA: OR, THE VICISSITUDES OF LIFE. EXTRACTED FROM THAT CELEBRATED WORK THE "LOOKER-ON." FIRST EDITION.  Worcester: Isaiah Thomas, Jun., Sept., 1798.
At top of title: "Too high a pitch  may be given to the mind in early life."  FIRST SEPARATE EDITION.  Old calf, spine with neat professional repairs, 156 pages.A rather scarce novel. OCLC lists copies at Yale, LC, UVa, BL & one other. "Looker-on" was first published in London in 1792/73. The American editor of this present edition (Thomas ?) dedicates it to "the sensible and witty, beautiful and virtuous, prudent, gentle, aimable [sic] and kind Daughters of Columbia."

[GOTHIC NOVEL]. THE CAVERN OF STROZZI. A NOVEL.  N.p.. [U.S.A.]: Printed for Booksellers, 1812. Original paper-covered boards, calf spine (neatly repaired), 5-1/2 X 3-1/2 inches, 72 pages, small hole in the paper on the front cover, old signature of "Peter Sanderson" on end paper. (The binding is the same as the Clements Library copy.) A rather scarce Gothic novel that takes place in a cave on a small island near Venice. 6 copies in OCLC.  $250

[CARPENTER’S GUIDE].  NICHOLSON, PETER.   THE CARPENTER'S NEW GUIDE: BEING A COMPLETE BOOK OF LINES FROM CARPENTRY & JOINERY. TREATING FULLY ON PRACTICAL GEOMETRY, SOFFITS,  BRICK AND PLASTER  GROINS ... SKY-LIGHTS ... ROOFS & DOMES ... ON 84 COPPER-PLATES ... 10th EDITION. Philadelphia: Grigg, 1830.  Quarto, old calf, spine neatly repaired, new leather label, some loss of leather along rear outer edge, light tide mark along bottom edge of some pages, otherwise quite a good copy. Old inscription on the free end paper: "Benjamin Graham Oches; [?] Book ,Philadelphia September 6, 1833, presented by his affectionate brother in law James Simpson."  Complete with all plates, and relatively free of foxing.  Uncommon in today's market, these early issues having been snapped up long ago by architects, architectural historians and others.  $450.00
