MORSE, Sidney E. A NEW UNIVERSAL ATLAS OF THE WORLD, ON AN IMPROVED
PLAN; CONSISTING OF THIRTY MAPS, CAREFULLY PREPARED FROM THE LATEST
AUTHORITIES, WITH COMPLETE ALPHABETICAL INDEXES. New Haven, CT: N & S.S.
Jocelyn, 1825. Second Edition. First published in 1822. Quarto (8-13/16"
x 11") bound in the original half red morocco with matching corners,
marbled paper boards, and printed paper label on the front cover.
Illustrated with a full-page, engraved double-hemisphere map of the
world; a double-page map of the United States; and 28 full-page maps of
America and the world, including 10 of the United States, all with
original hand-coloring. Maps with American interest include: North
America; the United States; Canada; Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont;
Massachusetts, Rhode-Island, and Connecticut; New York; Pennsylvania and
New Jersey; Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware; North Carolina, South
Carolina, and Georgia; Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana; Kentucky and
Tennessee; Ohio and Indiana; Illinois and Missouri; West Indies; South
America. Australia is depicted in the Pacific Ocean.

Maps generally Very Good with strong coloring. A dark stain to the
margin of maps toward the rear not touching any images and some
dampstaining, mostly rather faint, at the bottom of some of the maps
with little or no effect on the images. Library markings mostly removed
from the covers and endpapers. Some peeling of the marbled paper on the
covers. Overall a Very Good copy of this uncommon atlas.
Sidney Morse was the brother of the artist and inventor Samuel F. B. Morse.
