Frontispiece (sometimes lacking). New USiana H309 (2nd ptg).      WITH:  FLINT, TIMOTHY.  THE FIRST WHITE MAN OF THE WEST, OR THE LIFE & EXPLOITS OF COL. DAN'L BOONE, THE FIRST SETTLER OF  KENTUCKY; INTERSPERSED WITH INCIDENTS IN THE EARLY ANNALS OF THE COUNTRY.  Cincinnati: Anderson, &c, 1858.  Approximately 7 x 4-1/2 inches in original brown publisher's binding . Spine worn, old signature on front paste-down. Woodcut portrait and frontis and other illustrations--Indian ceremony, encounters with bears and a panther, &c. Later edition of his “Biographical Memoir...”(See New USiana F205). This printing not listed in Sabin.    WITH: A LATER PAMPHLET ON BOONE.

THWAITES, REUBEN G.  AFLOAT ON THE OHIO, AN HISTORICAL PILGRIMAGE OF A THOUSAND MILES IN A SKIFF, FROM REDSTONE TO CAIRO.  Chicago: Way & Williams, 1897.  First edition. Original pictorial cloth with scenes of waterfront industry stretching across both covers and spine. Possible erasure at foot of spine, Boys Club stamps on end paper, otherwise good.  The journey was made by three adults and a child and took 6 weeks. Thwaites wished to experience the great river as the early settlers had.  $40.00

WHITMAN, WALT.  LEAVES OF GRASS INCLUDING SANDS AT SEVENTY, GOOD BYE MY FANCY, OLD AGE ECHOES, AND A BACKWARD GLANCE O'ER TRAVEL'D ROADS.  Boston: Small, Maynard, 1897.  This edition adds 13 new poems.  BAL 21447: title page 2 (no priority) with the Index of First Lines, &c, but with at least one textual correction; binding D (no priority) in cloth with the tiny copyright at the bottom of the front cover with date 1897.  Original cloth stamped in gold and blind, top edge gilt, a nice bright copy. Portrait with tissue. A largely unopened copy. $250.00
