Cornell Widow. THE JOHNY BOOK. (Ithaca:. Cornell Widow, c1903?). Published as "The Widow Booklet III; The Johny Book. Second Edition." Octavo, printed pictorial colored wrappers. Unpaginated. (12pp.) Colored cover illustration plus five black and white plates. Very good. Minor soiling. Stains on rear wrapper, even a bloody thumb print. A simply awful piece. The Johny Book was written and illustrated by two Cornell University architecture students, Willard Dickerman Straight (writer) and J. Andre Smith (illustrator). The cartoons were first published in the Cornell Widow (Cornell University’s student paper) and then as a book. “The Bookman” Volume XVII (March, 1903 – Augst, 1903) contained ....illustrations from The Johny Book.... "
