By George E. Jordan.

DISCUSSION: “Inspired by the bayous, marshes, and lagoons of southern
Louisiana, artist George Viavant [1872-1925] produced exquisite paintings
of the birds, fish, and small game that he knew so well from years spent
hunting on his family’s property just outside New Orleans. This book
relates the story of the man whose work won the acclaim of hunters both in
Louisiana and in other parts of the country. His meticulous watercolors
expertly capture each feather and fin of his subject, which he depicted,
after the hunt, hanging from a small cord or string. Here was the bounty
of the hunt, as realistic as the bird or fish itself”.
