ORIENTATIONS COLLECTOR'S SOCIETY: Box and Collection of portfolios of
Society offerings.
Author: Orientations, Illustrated by: B&W and Color Photos
Publisher: Orientations Hong Kong

26 portfolios, each 10 x 7" made of heavy glazed paper. Each contains an
offering of rare Asian art works, with color (and sometimes additional B&W)
illustrations of the item(s) and a leaflet giving substantial description
and historical information. This appears to be a complete run, dating from
1974 to 1981. They are numbered 1-24, except for one lacking a number (which
appears to be an oversight, as the date fits it into the sequence) plus two
additional offerings subsequent to the demise of the Society as such (26 in
all). Also a handmade brocade covered box (which holds the first 12 issues)
with tab-loop fasteners, a letter of acceptance into the society, and gold
foil labels (which were meant to be applied to the box, but weren't). Most
are in Near Fine condition, although a few of the later ones have some
spotting on the portfolio surface. Items offered ranged from collections of
Asian textiles, Hiroshige woodblocks and other original art, a collection of
netsuke, porcelain, a Chinese bed (!), and so forth. One offering was for
paintings of household "paper gods" and a set of paper-cut images of paper
gods is included. I have not seen these offered elsewhere.

Regular price: $275 Special today only $175 ppd. USA, at cost elsewhere
