1936. Illustrated by lovely color illustrations throughout by
Bemelmans. First edition. 4to. Near fine/Near fine. Copyright page
states "First published September 1936." Unclipped DJ has $2.00
price. Fine but for two minor corner bumps. Dust jacket has a tiny
bit of rubbing at top and botttom of spine. First appearance of
Madeliene, the little girl famous for pointing with a dirty finger, a
double offense. Pretty bookplate pasted to verso of first free end
paper. $450.00
2. CARROLL, LEWIS [DODGSON, CHARLES L.]. ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN
WONDERLAND. ILLUS. BY GWYNEDD M. HUDSON. London: Hodder and
Stoughton, (1922). Illustrated by Gwynedd M. Hudson with black and
orange drawings in the text and full-page tipped-in color plates.
First printing of first edition. Orange linen hardcover with a
vignette of the turtle and the lobster on the upper board. Near fine.
A beautiful and charming treatment of Alice's story. Slight sunning
to spine (lettering still bright,) light foxing to pastedowns but not
to pages, wear to paper at gutter at pg. 132/133. Otherwise a
splendid copy of a rare book. $1600.00
3. SAINT-EXUPERY, ANTOINE DE. LITTLE PRINCE, THE. New York: Reynal
& Hitchcock, 1943. Translated by by Katherine Woods. First issue of
first English language edition. Original salmon cloth with maroon
lettering, in dust jacket. Fine/Fine. Heinemann's UK edition is dated
1944.The dust jacket is also first issue, with the price of $2.00 and
the publisher's address of 386 Fourth Avenue on the front flap. This
copy is in remarkably fine condition, without soil or wear. The
fragile dust jacket is nearly fine, without the usual spine darkening
(just the merest hint of wear to the top of its spine. Very scarce in
this condition. $1450.00
4. WHITE, E. B. CHARLOTTE'S WEB. New York: Harper & Brothers
Publishers, (1952). First issue of first edition. Fine/Near fine.
Unclipped jacket. All points present: Code IB; Price $2.50;
Publisher's name on spine of DJ: 4 blurbs about STUART LITTLE on rear
panel. Two 1/4 inch chips to two corners of the DJ and narrow chip
along bottom of DJ spine. Very crisp and clean copy. Stated first
edition. $1400.00
