MISCELLANY. Volumes I-X. London: Richard Bentley. 1837 - 1841. 
Altogether, 10 large octavo volumes, bound in contemporary moire silk 
cloth boards, volume seven not uniform (slightly larger and bound in 
what appears to be the publisher's original black cloth decorated in 
blind on upper & lower covers); spines titled in gilt. Minor foxing 
throughout, specifically just slightly to some of the plates but not 
extensive anywhere. The spines are uniformly faded and dull.

An important Victorian literary magazine. Contained within are the 
first appearance in print of

Charles Dickens. OLIVER TWIST. Complete in Vols 1-5
Edgar Allan Poe. THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER, first UK appearance, 
complete in Vol 8
William Harrison Ainsworth. JACK SHEPPARD. Complete in Vols 5-7
William Harrison Ainsworth. GUY FAWKES. Complete in Vols 7-10
Thomas Ingoldsby. THE INGOLDSBY LEGENDS.

Hundreds of articles and works of fiction are represented herein, by 
certainly notable authors such as Washington irving, Richard Brinsley 
Peake, Thomas Moore and others. We note several weird and 
supernatural tales, includng several ghost stoires. Of note is UNCLE 
SAM'S PECULIARITIES - AMERICAN NIGGERS in Vol 6.

With numerous full-page plates throughout, principally by John Leech 
and Robert Cruikshank.
