[COOPER, James Fenimore]. THE PATHFINDER; OR, THE INLAND SEA. London:
Richard Bentley, 1840. First Edition. Precedes the American edition
published later in the same year. Three volumes bound in original drab
boards with paper spine labels. BAL 3891; Spiller & Blackburn 30. In
this third of Cooper's five Leatherstocking Tales, set during the French
and Indian War, the narrator describes how he surrenders the girl he
loves to a more successful suitor. The boards are in quite nice
condition, the spines less so with rubbing and some loss to the edges
and chipping to the spine head of the first volume and some loss of
paper at the bottom. Internally the hinges are secure and not
compromised and the text is quite clean. Overall a Very Good set and
quite uncommon in an unrestored original binding. (#016449) $2,250.00
