[SHUI HU CHUAN]. New York: Limited Editions Club, 1948. Two folio 
volumes (9-1/4" x 12-1/4") bound in Oriental bark paper in the 
traditional stab-sewn Chinese style. Illustrated by Miguel Covarrubias 
with the plates hand-colored in the studio of Paul Baruch. Calligraphic 
titles by Jeanyee Wong. Copy #380 of 1500 SIGNED by the illustrator on 
the colophon page. Fine, lacking the chemise and slipcase as often the

x 10" pamphlet of 8 pages consisting of a biographical sketch and 
checklist of the Nobel Prize winning author SIGNED by her including her 
middle initial below her printed signature. The cover features Clara 
Sipprell's photograph of Buck looking down at a small oriental figure.

4.  BUCK, Pearl. OF MEN AND WOMEN. New York: The John Day Company, 
(1941). First Edition. A book based on Buck's belief that "our very 
democracy is threatened by the unbalance between men and women." SIGNED 
and INSCRIBED by the author on the front endpaper for Ashley Montagu 
"with deep appreciation." Ashley Montagu was an anthropologist and a 
prolific writer whose writing credits include over 50 books. He was an 
early proponent of gene-environment interaction and constantly stressed 
the effect an individual's life history had upon the potential and 
limitations provided by an individual's genetic makeup. Some of 
Montagu's best-known works include THE NATURAL SUPERIORITY OF WOMEN 
(1953) and THE ELEPHANT MAN (1971), which inspired the Tony 
Award-winning play and movie. Near Fine in a Good dustwrapper.

6.  BUCK, Pearl. TYPED LETTER SIGNED (TLS). Doylestown, PA, 11 March 
1955. A one-page letter of @200 words on Welcome House stationery asking 
for help for the agency, which Buck chaired and which was founded as an 
adoption and child care agency especially for American children of Asian 
ancestry. Normal folds from creasing; smudge to the "P" of Pearl. SIGNED 
"Pearl S. Buck." With envelope. Very Good. (#001497)        $150.00

7.  BUCK, Pearl. TYPED LETTER SIGNED (TLS). Doylestown, PA, 26 Dec. 
1956. A brief one-page letter on Welcome House stationery thanking the 
recipient for a contribution to the agency, which Buck chaired and which 
was founded as an adoption and child care agency especially for American 
children of Asian ancestry. In addition, Buck has added an INITIALED 
HOLOGRAPH postscript of 16 words thanking the recipient for a card.
