[EXTRACTS]. JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE CONGRESS, HELD AT
PHILADELPHIA, SEPTEMBER 5TH, 1774, CONTAINING THE BILL OF RIGHTS; A LIST
OF GRIEVANCES; OCCASIONAL RESOLVES; THE ASSOCIATION; AN ADDRESS TO THE
PEOPLE OF GREAT BRITAIN; A MEMORIAL TO THE INHABITANTS OF THE BRITISH
AMERICAN COLONIES; AND, AN ADDRESS TO THE INHABITANTS OF THE PROVINCE OF
QUEBEC. PUBLISHED BY THE ORDER OF CONGRESS. TO WHICH IS ADDED, (BEING
NOW FIRST PRINTED BY AUTHORITY) AN AUTHENTIC COPY OF THE PETITION TO THE
KING. London: J. Almon, 1775. First Edition. Octavo (5" x 8-3/8") in
20th-century blue boards with a paper spine label: [4], 66, [2] pages.
The second of two editions printed in England of this important document
that Howes (E-247) called "The forerunner of the Declaration of
Independence." This publication supplied the parts of the entire
Journals of 1774 not already published for the British public. In
addition to the regular title page, this copy has the half-title page
with the price of one shilling and six pence as well as a second and
different title page which includes nothing after the "September 5th,
1774" date and which states "Philadelphia Printed" above the London J.
Almon imprint. We have been unable to locate any other copy with two
different title pages. The only defect is a closed jagged tear to one
leaf toward the center of the page with no loss. Owner stamp and
blindstamp on the later front free endpaper. Near Fine. (#013579)
$2,000.00
