TITLE: “Folk-Crafts in Japan”

By Soetsu Yanagi.
Published in Tokyo by Kokusai Bunka Shinkokai in 1936.

DISCUSSION: The author was an art critic and lecturer at Senshu
University, as well as the editor of Kogei (Handicraft) magazine. This
booklet, published by The Society for International Cultural Relations,
begins with an essay by Mr. Yanagi, followed by 19 tipped-in illustrations
with accompanying descriptions and explanations, “peoples”, or “folk”,
Japanese houses, metalwork, pottery, paintings and textiles. The
less-common first edition of this book, which was re-issued after the War.

DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 7.5”x10”, 55 pages, with 2 color and 17 black &
white tipped-in illustrations.

CONDITION NOTES: Minor wear, some scuffing and wear to the covers, but
otherwise clean and nice, with a tight binding.
