First Edition. A book based on Buck's belief that "our very democracy is 
threatened by the unbalance between men and women." SIGNED and INSCRIBED 
by the author on the front endpaper for Ashley Montagu "with deep 
appreciation." Ashley Montagu was an anthropologist and a prolific 
writer whose writing credits include over 50 books. He was an early 
proponent of gene-environment interaction and constantly stressed the 
effect an individual's life history had upon the potential and 
limitations provided by an individual's genetic makeup. Some of 
Montagu's best-known works include THE NATURAL SUPERIORITY OF WOMEN 
(1953) and THE ELEPHANT MAN (1971), which inspired the Tony
