Rear joint is open one inch from bottom.  Some wear at ends of spine.  All edges gilt.   Frontispiece and extra engraved title page.  Blue end papers.  Printed in 33 languages at the Armenian monastery on St. Lazarus Island including English, Arabic, Armenian, Ethiopian, Hebrew, Latin, French, German, Italian, Russian, Serbian, Chinese, Syrian, Turkish, Malayan, etc, (earlier editions had fewer languages.)  Short inscription: "Hale, St. Lazarus Island.  June 11, 1868."  (A typographical curiosity.) ($40)  $20

Several volume numbers on spine are rubbed and somewhat indistinct.  An attractive set.  A monthly serial in five volumes, May 1800 - September 1800; these are the first 5 volumes of a 29 volume set.  A critique of major authors and books in a topical arrangement, accompanied by a list of recent publications.   Includes Milton, Locke, Newton, Spinoza, etc.  Divided by topics (i.e. Philosophy. Law, Economics, etc.).  The Union List of Serials lists only one complete set located at the American Philosophical Society.  The other three listings are incomplete and do not go beyond 1803. (N.Y., 1853-54).  "A new edition, revised by the author."  Complete 6 volume set.  6 x 4.25 inches each.  Orig. red cloth blind-stamped with diamond pattern.  Spines decorated in gilt.  Moderate wear at ends of spines, but an attractive set.  Some foxing.  Color plates.  One volume lacks frontis.  Some front blanks are missing.  "(These stories) present to the juvenile reader an account of the gradual progress made by our little heroine in the acquisition of knowledge, and in the formation of character..."  ($50)  $20

Signed inscription from the printer, Lewis Buddy III, to Robert H. Dodd, an early 20th century bookseller.  "To Robert H. Dodd, with cordial greetings, Lewis Buddy III."  BAL 5313.   Scarce. KELLY, Hugh.  THE ROMANCE OF AN HOUR, A COMEDY OF TWO ACTS,  AS IT IS PERFORMED WITH UNIVERSAL APPLAUSE, AT THE THEATRE-ROYAL, COVENT-GARDEN.  Dublin, 1775.  ($40)  $20

O'KEEFE, John.  THE PRISONER AT LARGE: A COMEDY IN TWO ACTS.  AS PERFORMED AT THE THEATRE-ROYAL IN THE HAY-MARKET WITH UNIVERSAL APPLAUSE.  Dublin, 1792.  6.25 x 3.75 inches.  40 pages.  Disbound, old inking at foot of title page, some light wear.  Old contemporary MS inserted of the Dramatis Personae for the New York performance of this play.  "The Romance of the Hour" opened December 2, 1774 in Covent Garden.  It was written by the Irish playwright Hugh Kelly, who borrowed heavily from Marmontel's tale "L'amitié à l'épreuve."  Kelly also wrote "False Delicacy, " a very popular comedy of the era.6.25 x 3.75 inches.  iv (i.e., vi) (7) - 59, (1) pages.  Disbound.  Old, contemporary MS for the New York performance of this play inserted.  John O'Keefe (1747-1833) wrote a number of popular farces and comedies including "Wild Oats."  ($40)  $15
