CHRISTIE, Agatha. THE MURDER AT THE VICARAGE. London: Published for
the Crime Club Ltd. by W. Collins Sons & Co Ltd. [1930].
First edition, first printing, first binding. Octavo, original orange
cloth titled and bordered in black. 254 pp + [2] pp ads at rear of
"NEW 7/6 DETECTIVE NOVELS" listing 4 titles starting with SIR JOHN
MAGILL'S LAST JOURNEY by Freeman Wills Crofts.
An ex-private lending library copy with "No. 1052" written by hand in
black pen on the spine above the publisher's imprint, a small pocket
on the rear paste-down, a partial "date due" slip and the stamp "Vic
Vets Hospital" on the rear free endpaper. The front free endpaper is
lacking and the inner front hinge has been reinforced with a small
piece of white paper which is attached to the front paste-down and
the half-title leaf. Water-strike on front panel, some general
grubbiness to the cloth, top left corner of spine panel with a touch
of wear. Overall, not a fresh copy; condition is fair to good, but
here it is, and it is a certainly complete copy in the original binding.
A rare book. The first Miss Marple mystery, Christie's 10th book, and
her first to be issued by the Crime Club. The Crime Club commenced in
1930, this is an extremely early title.
Just purchased, just listed. There are a bunch of pictures of it here:
