Edmund Burke: Reflections on the Revolution in France, and on the Proceedings in Certain Societies in London relative to that Event. London: J. Dodsley, 1790. Third edition. [BOUND WITH:] Joseph Priestley: Letters to the Right Honourable Edmund Burke, occasioned by his Reflections on the Revolution in France, &c. Birmingham: Printed by Thomas Pearson, 1791. Third edition. [BOUND WITH:] Thomas Paine: Rights of Man: Being an Answer to Mr. Burke's Attack on the French Revolution. London: Jordan, 1791. Fourth edition (same year as the first). [WITH:] Common Sense; Addressed to the Inhabitants of America…. A New Edition, with several Additions in the Body of the Work. To which is added, an Appendix; together with an Address to the people called Quakers… London: Ridgway, 1791. Thick 8vo (21 cm) in period polished calf, rebacked; iv, 364 pp.; xii, [3], 155, [9] pp.; x, [1], 8-171, [1] pp.; 88, 8 pp. The third work with a half-title, the second and fourth works with publisher's adverts.

An uncommon bound collection of four separate works, by three towering figures of the late-eighteenth century, on the one burning topic of the age. Includes early printings of Paine's two most famous and influential works, as well as the book that started it all: Burke's reactionary treatise on the French Revolution and its supporters in Britain.

Binding with some rubbing and wear to the edges and corners; first title-page (Burke's Reflections) trimmed at the top; occasional scattered spotting and foxing, most noticeable on the first and last few leaves of the Priestley title. The suppressed/deleted passages in Common Sense have been neatly filled in, in ink, by an early hand. In addition, there are occasional lightly pencilled (i.e. erasable) underlinings and marginal marks, presumably by a later owner. Front paste-down with the early printed ownership label of William Walker.
