McDOUGALL, Joseph Easton [editor]; Keith Crombie, James Cowan, Clarke
Ashworth and others (contributors).

THE GOBLIN. Feb 1921 - June 1923; Comprising Vol 1, Nos 1-4; Vol 2 ,
Nos 1-7; Vol 3, Nos 1-12; altogether 23 issues, a complete set of the
first 3 volumes, bound together with all front & rear covers in two
quarto red cloth volumes. Hinges of the first volume are cracked, the
front cover of the first issue has old clear tape along the hinge and
on the verso, affixing it to the first leaf; some marks to the cloth;
a very good set, the individual issues for the most part clean and
bright with all covers present, a few issues very mildly trimmed for
the binding.

The front cover of Vol 1, No 1 is signed by J.A. Cowan, J.E.
McDougall, Keith Crombie, C.G. Ashworth and nine others, including
A.M. Crawford, Gordon P.W. Sparling, E.B. Marshall, R.H. MacDougall
and others whose names I cannot make out.

A contributors set, previously owned by both Clarke Ashworth, who has
inscribed the flyleaf of volume two with the note "Loaned to
Campbell-Ewald Library by Clarke Ashworth"; pursuiant to this, a
letter is laid in, on Campbell-Ewald Limited, (Advertising, Toronto)
letterhead, dated Oct 9th, 1934, giving the set to Keith Crombie,
Esq, then c/o Lord and Thomas of Canada Limited, Toronto; both
volumes also have the latter ownership ticket of Crombie from
Westmount, Quebec, on the front pastedowns.

A remarkable run of this important early Canadian Humour magazine,
published by a group of undergraduates at the University of Toronto.
With noteworthy contributions throughout, including articles by
Stephen Leacock, and fabulous period artwork on the full-colour
covers and the advertisements throughout.

A rare set of early Canadian Comic magazines.

$950.00 the set; trade discount allowed. Post extra at cost.
