Durer, Albrecht. ..... QUATOUR... INSTITUTIONUM GEOMETRICARUM LIBRIS... Paris: C. Wechel. 1532. Folio. (8),185,(3)pp. Title with printer's woodcut device, and device repeated on the verso of the final leaf (recto blank). Text profusely illustrated with woodcut diagrams, including full-page plates. The diagrams on P6 recto and Q1 recto, extended on folding slips, pasted in, are present in this copy. They are often lacking. Attractively bound in modern full polished brown calf done in antique style, with gilt central ornament on both covers and gilt tooled spine. Neat paper repairs, at top outer blank corner of title page, and bottom inner blank portion of Q3.	$30,000.00 (trade discount allowed)
Very nice large copy of the first Latin edition, translated from the German ("Unterweisung der Messung") by J. Camerarius. Wechel quickly reprinted the Latin edition in 1534 and 1535. The text is divided into 4 "books." The final portion of Book III discusses the geometrical principals of the construction of Roman and Gothic letters, with complete alphabets. This portion was translated into English by R. T. Nichol for the Grolier Club 1917 publication titled, "Of the Just Shaping of Letters." Brunet II, p. 912-913.
