reproductions by Joseph Domjan. SIGNED by the illustrator on the

Modern Age Books, (1939). First Edition. Quarto (8" x 11-1/4") bound in 
the publisher's half cream calf and pictorial blue-gray cloth stamped in 
silver. Includes a five-page preface by Ernest Hemingway in which he 
states: "Luis Quintanilla is one of the bravest men that I have ever 
known." Illustrated by Quintanilla with four lithographs and 62 
full-page drawings. This is Copy #103 of 440 of the Deluxe Edition 
SIGNED by the artist and with a loose color print laid in. As so often 
the case with this title, the calf spine is rubbed, here a bit more than 
average with most of the lettering rubbed away leaving the spine a 
little rough to the touch. Very Good, lacking the slipcase. (#013559)

The New York Times Company, December 1914. First Edition. Printed wraps; 
208 pages. Laurence A130a for the English Edition issued in November 
1914 as a supplement to THE NEW STATESMAN. This American Edition is not 
noted by Laurence and in addition to Shaw's piece, which is given head 
billing, it includes articles by Arnold Bennett, John Galsworthy, 
Rudyard Kipling, H. G. Wells, G. K. Chesterton, A. Conan Doyle, H. Rider 
Haggard, and others. All of the above, as well as a few others, have 
portraits within as well. Not in Lomazow's guide to first issues of

9. [WESTMORELAND, William] ADLER, Renata. RECKLESS DISREGARD. 
WESTMORELAND V. CBS ET AL.; SHARON V. TIME Inscribed by William 
Westmoreland to William Bundy. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1986. First 
Edition. INSCRIBED by General William Westmoreland to William Bundy and 
dated Xmas 1986: "To: Bill Bundy--/The truth at last!/I am grateful/for 
your support./Westy." Westmoreland, commander of U.S. military 
operations in Vietnam from 1964 - 1968, sued CBS for libel, arguing that 
a documentary it had broadcast entitled "The Uncounted Enemy: A Vietnam 
Deception," defamed him because it asserted that he had led a conspiracy 
to manipulate intelligence on enemy troop sizes. Nearly three years 
after the suit's initiation, both parties agreed to dismiss the case. 
What could never be dismissed, however, was Westmoreland's aggressive 
role in the escalation of ground troops in Vietnam. William Bundy had a 
long, distinguished service in the government in the CIA and in the 
Defense Department. He was appointed Assistant Secretary of State for 
Far Eastern Affairs in March 1964. His brother McGeorge was Special 
Assistant for National Security Affairs to Kennedy and Johnson from 
1961-1966. Both are considered primary architects of America's 
involvement in Vietnam. In THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST, David Halberstam 
stated that during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, William 
Bundy's name "would probably be on more pieces of paper dealing with 
Vietnam over a seven-year period than anyone else's." A fine association 
copy linking two important figures in America's Vietnam policy.

10. WILSON, Henry. MILITARY MEASURES OF THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS. 
1861-1865. New York: D. Van Nostrand, 1866. First Edition. Octavo in 
contemporary half brown morocco leather with marbled boards and morocco 
corners; frontispiece portrait, v, [i], 88 pages. A collection of the 91 
acts, bills, and resolutions for the military during the Civil War by 
the Chairman of the Committee on Military Affairs, printed from Advance 
Sheets of the Rebellion Record. This is Wilson's own copy with his 
bookplate on the front pastedown and a clipped SIGNATURE and closing 
pasted to the front free endpaper. Wilson was born Jeremiah Colbath in 
1812 in Farmington, New Hampshire. An indentured farm laborer at the age 
of ten, he changed his name to Henry Wilson after obtaining his freedom 
in 1833. He became a school teacher, acquired and edited a newspaper, 
and in 1855 won a seat in the Senate. After the war Wilson served as 
Vice President for Ulysses S. Grant. Small leather bookplate of Frank C. 
Deering at the top of the front pastedown. Light foxing. Near Fine.
