Presentation copy, boldly inscribed on the front free-endpaper: "To Donald
Kahn from Abraham Walkowitz."  Laid into this copy is an eight-page English
translation of Lichtenstein's biography of Walkowitz, also signed by
Walkowitz. Walkowitz (1878-1965) has been called a pioneer of American
