A new revised edition of Le Clerc's popular work on geometry and perspective for the artist. The text first appeared in 1690 and this version with fine engravings by Nicholas Cochin and Quentin-Pierre Chedel first appeared in 1744. This should not be confused with the author's PRACTIQUE DE LA GEOMETRIE SUR LE PAPIER ET SUR LE TERRAIN, which appeared first at Paris in 1669. Each of the engravings has a geometrical diagram at the top complimented with a beautiful etched vignette at the bottom depicting landscapes, everyday life, children playing, etc., etc. Sebastien Le Clerc (1673-1714), noted engraver and geometrician, was professor of perspective at the Academie Royale de Peinture for thirty years. The present work includes a short biography of Le Clerc. Poggendorff I, 1401; cf. Fowler #174 & Lewine p. 301 (both 1744 ed.), Berlin at. 4724 & Cicognara 478 (both 1774 ed.).
