Carroll & Cook, 1844. First Edition. Quarto (9" x 11-1/2") bound in
publisher's half brown morocco leather. Illustrated with 140 (of 141)
hand-colored lithographs of birds and containing "detailed descriptions
of all the animals hitherto observed within the state of New-York, with
brief notices of those occasionally found near its borders." Lacks plate
84, likely never bound in. Moderate foxing to just a few pages of the
text. The plates are clean with varying degrees of offsetting affecting
about 20% of them, usually with little detriment. Some rubbing to the
corners and spine. Very Good copy of this important book. (#009440)
