[Rarebooks] FS: Beautiful Edition of Tolstoy's WAR AND PEACE Illustrated and SIGNED by Barnett Freedman

We have recently posted on our home page and elsewhere 175 new Limited 
Editions Club acquisitions including Original Art for some of the books; 
publisher's, office, and proof copies of the books; and books still in 
their original shipping containers, as well as some high points of the 
press.  Here is an example.

TOLSTOY, Leo. WAR AND PEACE. Glasgow: Limited Editions Club, 1938. Six 
octavo volumes (5-3/4" x 9") bound in decorated red linen and housed in 
two slipcases. Numerous full-page color lithographs and black and white 
drawings in the text, as well as color endpaper and cover designs, by 
Barnett Freedman. Translated by Louis and Aylmer Maude. Of a total 
edition of 1500 copies SIGNED by the artist and with his thumbprint in 
red ink on the colophon page, this is one of only 15 Presentation Copies 
with the publisher's blindstamp attesting to such on the colophon page 
where the printed number "1492" is struck through and the initials 
"G.M." are handwritten. Acquired directly from the publisher's files, 
and most likely the publisher George Macy's very own copy. Very slight 
sunning to the spines. Fine in Fine slipcases made especially for the 
publisher and differing slightly from the regular slipcases. (#016525)
