[Liszt (Franz)] ELABORATELY DECORATED NOTEBOOK WITH A PRESENTATION
INSCRIPTION BY LISZT

Notebook containing 65 leaves, bound in brown leather with elaborately
inlaid front and back covers – the decoration appears to be in
ivory, mother of pearl, silver, brass and wood (see illustrations on
the site) – a small strip of ivory is missing from the back cover,
single brass clasp and a pencil holder (pencil missing), all edges gilt.

The first two pages bear a presentation inscription from Franz Liszt
in French and German to Professor Ernst Weyden, the remainder of the
notebook is unused.

In a letter (to Carl Reinecke) April 16th, 1852, Liszt describes
Weyden as, ‘A very good friend of mine, Professor Weyden of Cologne,
who has just been spending a few days with me….’ (Letters of Franz
Liszt, Volume I, 1894).

Auction ends on Thursday, 6th September 2012 at 16.30 gmt.
