TITLE: “The Fifty-three Stages of the Tokaido by Hiroshige”

Published in Honolulu by the East-West Center Press in 1966. 3rd printing.

DISCUSSION: In the 1830s master Japanese woodcut artist Utagawa Hiroshige
created his famed “Fifty-three Stages of the Tokaido” series of woodblock
prints, showing each of the 53 way-stations used by travelers passing
along the national highway between Tokyo and Kyoto. These prints are
reproduced here at just under full-size along with scholarly commentary by
Ichitaro Kondo. A lovely production of a classic of Japanese printmaking.

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 12”x8.5”, 12 pages plus 55 color plates and facing
descriptions, dust jacket.

CONDITION NOTES: The dust jacket has some light wear along the edges and
several tiny chips, the book itself is clean and nice, with a tight
binding.
