[DREYFUS, John]. THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT. DESIGNER'S ARCHIVE for the
publication of this book along with a rather lengthy correspondence with
a collector about the Limited Editions Club and other publishers.
Oxford: Limited Editions Club, 1977. The designer John Dreyfus's archive
of materials relating to the design of THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT published
by the Limited Editions Club. In addition to sample pages, proof sheets,
and other materials, there is extensive correspondence with various
people connected to the book's publication: binder, printer, publisher,
and with many letters from Leo Wyatt who provided wood-engraved
decorations. In addition there is later correspondence of 15 or so
letters with a collector about a variety of issues, mostly about
Dreyfus's book HISTORY OF THE NONESUCH PRESS and, interestingly, much
about dark doings at the Limited Editions Club. Also included is a copy
of the book, quarto (8-3/4" x 12") bound in quarter black cowhide and
boards covered with Cockerel handmade marbled paper; 98 pages folded
double in the Japanese style. Printed on Abbey Mills paper made by
Grosvenor Chater at their mill in North Wales. Designed by John Dreyfus.
Commentaries and introduction by Roman Greer; wood-engraved decorations
on the title page and title panels by Leo Wyatt. Issued unsigned in an
edition of 1600 copies. Both archive and book Fine. (#016651)
