An eclectic collection of five plays bound together in one handsome volume. Thick 8vo (21.5 cm) in full period calf with gilt-lettered spine and morocco spine label, marbled endpapers and page edges. All but the first play with half-titles. From the library at Encombe House, Dorset, seat of the Scotts, Earls of Eldon, with a bookplate bearing the family's heraldic devices and motto (Sit sine labe decus: "Let honour be without stain"). Joints professionally repaired, slight cracking between the blank front flyleaf and a general title-page printed and bound in by the original owner; title-page of the last play with the inscription "Encombe 1824"; newspaper review of a production of Scribe's play glued onto the verso of the half-title of the play following it; mild spotting to a few leaves; else clean and sound, firmly bound.
