Alexander Pope, London,  (1688 -  1744), poet, critic, essayist. The foremost English poet of eighteenth century, classical poet. Pope used the popular form of  "heroic couplets" with exceptional genius creating witty and satiric epic's which became the dominating form of verse in his century. Beautiful set, bound in contemporary smooth light brown calf., maroon and black leather title panels with volume numbers, decorated with gilt. Volumes I, II, and IV., have some loss to title panel, only Vol. IV does it affect a letter the second P in Pope. Mild rubbing of spines and boards. Mild surface scratches to boards. Peacock marbled e.p.'s, gilt dentelle to edge of boards. Clean bright text, no inscriptions, hinges tight, solid in bindings. TEG. Each volume is about 430 pp, total of 3705 pages, tall 8 vo. 9 by 5 1/2. 
Clean tightly bound, good size font.
