TITLE: “History of Ancient Pottery”

By Samuel Birch.
Published in London by John Murray in 1858.

DISCUSSION: The first edition of what was the first comprehensive history
of ancient pottery, including Greek, Roman, Assyrian, Etruscan, and
Egyptian work. Birch's work stood the test of time well, and although now
very dated is still an interesting and informative study.

DESCRIPTION: 2 volumes. 6"x9", 415 & 437 pages, 12 color plates and
hundreds of text illustrations. Bound in period dark green ¾ leather with
marbled boards and endpapers. Spines with raised bands, separated into
five compartments with gilt titles and ancient vase decorations.

CONDITION NOTES: Covers with moderate scuffing and a little wear. Still a
handsome set. Minor wear, but otherwise clean and nice, with a tight
binding.

PRICE: $250-
