Henry Saxe Wyndham: The Annals of Covent Garden Theatre from 1732-1897. London: Chatto & Windus, 1906. FIRST EDITION. Two volumes, thick 8vos (23 cm), bound in modern crimson pebbled cloth, gilt spine lettering, top page-edges gilt, decorative endpapers; 383, 368 pp.; illustrated with plates.

Published with 45 black&white plates, this set is EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with 80+ additional engravings, woodcuts, and lithographs, some colored and/or folding, including portraits, views, caricatures, costume plates, etc., and an original 1820 theatrical handbill (a performance commemorating the death of George III).

A compendious history of the great Theatre-Royal Covent Garden, with anecdotes and engravings of actors, playwrights, composers and others, including Handel, Paganini, David Garrick, Sarah Siddons, Edmund Kean, Fanny Kemble, Mrs. Inchbald, Oliver Goldsmith, Samuel Johnson, John Dryden, Charles Dickens, etc., etc. Touches of very minor soiling to the bindings, mold toning to the leaves, a few short edge-tears, otherwise clean and sound, securely bound. Armorial bookplate (signed "Agry") of Dorothy and Edwin Sunderland.
