EISENHOWER, Dwight. CRUSADE IN EUROPE Inscribed to his brother Milton.
Garden City: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1948. First Edition. First
Edition preceding the trade edition. Illustrated with drawings and
photographs. There were 1426 deluxe numbered copies SIGNED by the author
on the facsimile page of the D-Day Order to send the troops to storm the
beaches of Normandy, which begins: "You are about to embark upon the
Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes
of the world are upon you." Of those 1426 copies, the first 25 were
bound in full red morocco leather and put aside for Eisenhower's
personal use. This is Copy #7 and in addition to having the SIGNED order
is INSCRIBED by the President to his brother and sister-in-law on the
limitation page: "For Milton and Helen--,/In the realization that/if I
could have had the help/of Milton in preparing this work/its value, if
any, would have been/multiplied for every reader./With lasting devotion
and affection/from their brother/Ike." Crack in text block after the
half-title page. Still about Fine in a Fine, original slipcase.

Milton Stover Eisenhower (September 15, 1899 - May 2, 1985), the younger
brother of the President and the youngest of six sons, served as
president of three major American universities: Kansas State University,
the Pennsylvania State University, and the Johns Hopkins University.
Under Franklin Roosevelt, Milton headed the War Relocation Authority,
the agency charged with administering what would be a mass removal and
incarceration of all Japanese Americans from the West Coast. He served
as a close advisor to his brother and also served presidents Harry
Truman, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard M. Nixon as a
special consultant. In 1980, Eisenhower appeared on the ballot in Texas
as the running mate of Congressman John B. Anderson, Independent
candidate for President of the United States. (#016961) $25,000.00
