Altorphii: Typis Christophori Lochneri, et Johannis Hofmanni. (1592). 4to. ff.(34). A fine contemporary binding of polished calf, blind & gilt ruled, with a large German (unidentified) coat-of-arms on the front cover and oval ornament on the rear cover. With the large woodcut bookplate of the Nuremberg lawyer and senator Hieronymous Baumgartner (1498-1565) – clearly used by a later member of the family of Baumgartner, as this book was printed in 1592. The bookplate has been identified as by "The circle of Bartel Beham" (see reference below). Small library label on title page. Front hinge cracked, but cords are quite strong. A funeral oration on the anniversary of the death of the famous French jurist Hugues Doneau (Hugo Donellus) 1527-1591, who died in Altdorf, where he was professor of law at the University of Altdorf. VD 16 P 1068. O'Dell DEUTSCHE UND OSTERREICHISCHE EXLIBRIS 1500-1599 #36. Not in BL german STC which does have another funeral oration (1590) by this author under "Paumgaertnerus ab Holenstein, Caspar." Not in Adams.
