The first part features a profile of Victor J. Evans and texts on 
various rodeo events, with 6 photos: Evans ("friend and councillor of 
the Indian") and rodeo cowboys and cowgirls in action.The second part 
features "The American Indian" by Evans, with sections on religion, 
burial customs, dress, scalp lock, torture of captives, instinct, 
dances, and more; also a short uncredited text on "Custer's Last 
Battle."The 14 photos here are chiefly portraits of individual or 
grouped Indian chiefs.The rodeo photos are by Doubleday; most of the 
uncredited Indian photos look to be by Curtis.

interests.He donated his large collection of Indian artifacts to the 
Smithsonian, which is still trying to untangle their provenance.
