ON MASON AND DIXON'S LINE, WITH A MAP. [full title] Messages from the
Governors of Maryland and Pennsylvania, transmitting the Reports of the
Joint Commissioners, and of Lieut. Col. Graham, U.S. Topographical
Engineers, in relation to the Intersection of the Boundary Lines of the
states of Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware, being a portion of Mason and
Dixon's Line, with a Map. Chicago: Steam Presses of F. Fulton, 1862. Second
Edition. 95pp; folding map tipped at back. Tipped at front is a printed

January 8th, 1863, to the Leicester Literary and Philosophical Society,

This pamphlet, first published in 1850 after Graham had directed the
re-survey of Mason and Dixon's line, was here reissued in 1862 at the
beginning of the Civil War, and issued in Chicago because Graham was
serving duty on the Great Lakes. Graham, an important topographical
engineer, served with Major Stephen H. Long on his expedition to the Rocky
Mountains, 1819-1821. He was the astronomer of the surveying party that
fixed the boundary between the US and the Republic of Texas. Chicago
