PHOTOGRAPH OF GERTRUDE ATHERTON BY ARNOLD GENTHE. . A beautiful large
(10-3/8" x 13-1/4") silver print portrait of writer Gertrude Atherton
(1857 - 1948) SIGNED by the photographer in pencil "Arnold Genthe/N.Y."
below the image on the original 14" x 18" mat. Lovely, soft image of
this writer best known for her books on California by a photographer
also strongly connected to that state. On the verso of the mat are two
small New York Historical Society stamps, one dated 5 May 1943, as well
as the penciled date 16 March 1943. Various chips and tears, some large,
along the margins of the mat, but none coming close to either the
photograph or Genthe's signature. Mat in Good condition, photograph
