crushed leather. Early English Text Society, London. 1904. 8vo, pp. c, 368.
First published by Kegan, Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co. for the Early
English Text Society in 1868. All edges gilt, the spine in compartments,
and the edges of the inside of the boards nicely dentilled in gilt on
overlapping leather (which has now off-set to endpapers). Large
presentation bookplate, in a nice calligraphed hand, and affixed to
inside front board, attesting that this book was awarded to Joyce
Marjorie Sanxter Tompkins by the Council of Bedford College for Women
(University of London) in 1918. The bookplate is signed by Miss Tomkin's
Lecturer, Principal, and the Chairman of the College, Leonard Darwin,
the son of the famous English naturalist Charles Darwin. The college's
crest is embossed in gilt on the front board. The binding is tight and
the contents are unmarked. There is some light scuffing to the boards
and a touch of wear at the extremities; else in very good condition.
