[Rarebooks] FS - Eight titles by An Philibin

Eight titles, all first printings, of the Irish author, An Philibin, 
sometimes misspelled as "An Pilibin"; pseudonym of John Hackett Pollock 
(1887-1964). Pollock was born in Dublin and was a founding member of the 
Gate Theatre, as well as a physician, novelist, poet and playwright. All 
of his literary works were written under this pen-name, although he did 
write a biography of W. B. Yeats under his own name.

1. THE SECRET ALTAR. Bound in original stitched printed card covers, 
Poetry. Martin Lester, Limited, Dublin, Eire. 12mo, pp. 24. Only 500 
copies of this little book were printed and then the type was 
distributed. Covers. sl. sunned, else in vg condition.  A scarce 
collection of 16 poems.

2. WILD HONEY. Bound in original blue paper-covered boards with black 
lettering.  Illustrated with b&w vignettes. W. Tempest , Dundalk, Eire. 
1942. 1st edition, 8vo, pp. 74. Boards and cloth spine show some 
scuffing and edge-rubbing. Contents unmarked. A good plus copy of a 
scarce title.

3. IRISH IRONIES. Bound in original patterned cloth with dark blue 
lettering. The Talbot Press Limited, Dublin, Eire. 1930. 1st edition, 
8vo, pp. 96. Eight short stories. Spine sunned, light overall shelf 
wear. Contents unmarked. A good to very good copy.

4. ATHENS AFLAME. Bound in original stiff brown card covers with silver 
lettering. Martin Lester, Limited,  Dublin, Eire. ND (1920s). 1st 
edition, 8vo, pp. 24. This is copy number 85 of only 350 copies printed; 
after which the type was distributed. Light shelf wear, else vg condition.

5. SMOKING FLAX. Bound in original stiff brown card covers with printed 
label. Martin Lester, Limited, Dublin, Eire. ND. 1st edition, 8vo, pp. 
59. This is copy number 276 of only 500 copies printed; after which the 
type was distributed. Light shelf wear, else very good condition.

6. THE SUN-CHILD A POEM. Bound in original stiff brown card covers with 
printed label. The Talbot Press, Dublin, Eire. 1925. 1st edition, 8vo, 
pp. 67. Slightest shelf wear to covers, else clean, tight and in near 
fine condition. Most of the pages are uncut.

7.  TRISTRAM & ISEULT A Dramatic Poem.. Bound in original stiff brown 
card covers with printed label. The Talbot Press, Dublin, Eire. 1924. 
1st edition, 8vo, pp. 47. Slightest shelf wear to covers, else clean, 
tight and in near fine condition.

8. A TALE OF THULE together with SOME POEMS. Bound in original stiff 
brown card covers with printed label. The Talbot Press, Dublin, Eire. 
1924. 1st edition, 8vo, pp. 56. Slight shelf wear and a touch of sunning 
to covers, else clean, tight and in very good to near fine condition. 
One of 500 copies.
