(1999). Reprint. Octavo, 127 pages. This useful reference is Eberstadt 
Catalogue 119. In it are included 219 important books pertaining to the 
Northwest Coast of the United States. The Eberstadt catalogues usually 
provide not only full author-title and collations, but invaluable 
annotations as well. This catalogue is no exception. There is a wealth 
of information provided in the annotations. According to Americana 
bookseller William Reese, "One of the most notable bookseller catalogues 
ever issued in Americana, this was Catalogue 119 of the firm. It covered 
Pacific Northwest Coast voyages by Russian, English, French, Spanish and 
American Expeditions, with a special section on the Wilkes Expedition, 
with a narrative as well as specific descriptions." As New, still in

1899 edition (London). Cloth; large octavo; 401 pages. This extremely 
rare catalogue of early printed books is the most elusive of the 
catalogues of the Fairfax-Murray Collection. It was printed in an 
edition of only 100 copies. Unlike the companion volumes on French and 
German books, this catalogue has never been reprinted until now. The 
fact that the catalogue is written in Italian is testimony to the focus 
of this collection. Many of the books described are important in the 
history of printing in Italy. In all 2382 books are expertly described. 
The catalogue is unobtainable on the second-hand market. Copies in 
recent years have sold for $1,000 or more. There are only a handful of 
copies located in American Institutions. Not in Besterman. Fine.

alphabetically by Italian cities. For each city a list of printers is 
given, including works printed prior to 1525, and cross-references with 
Hain. All the known printers' marks for each press are illustrated. All 
Italian cities, from Aquila to Vincenza, where printing was established 
by 1525 are included. Kristeller is recognized as one of the foremost 
authorities on early printing in Italy, having authored several other

bibliography describes 3,500 books on all aspects on Chinese life. It is 
an excellent reference for collectors, is easy to use, and provides a 
broad exposure to books in any given subject. The collection is based on 
the collection of Thomas Hunt, a merchant who gained his fortune in 
China during the middle of the 19th century. A lifelong collector, Hunt 
gave his collection to the Essex Institute, where it is currently 
housed. The library contains about 4000 volumes. It was with the purpose 
of increasing the library's usefulness to scholars that the current 
catalog was compiled. Subjects are Chinese in America, Jews in China, 
Buddhism, folklore, secret societies, and dozens of others. Besterman

pagination, and valuable annotations. In all 1254 works by Dutch 
explorers and authors are covered, giving a full account of the books 
published during the three century long history of Dutch Exploration. 
Though once reprinted, Tiele is now very difficult to find. Besterman
