Dakota Territory.  LOAN APPLICATION MADE BY A COUPLE, FARMING 200 ACRES OF
LAND IN SIOUX FALLS, MINNEHAHA COUNTY, TERRITORY OF DAKOTA, November 9,
1886. Sioux Falls: Dakota National Bank, 1886. Original edition. Printed
form on watermarked paper, accomplished by hand, 14" x 8.5". Signed by the
applicants, John & Caroline Cuthbert, and signed by C.C. Carpenter, Notary
Public, with two stamped seals. Also signed by the appraiser whose report
is part of the application. Very Good.
Written in are replies to the 23 questions that the applicants were
required to answer, such as: What produce was raised on the land last
season? How many acres will you break next season? Is the neighborhood well
settled, and by what class of people and Nationality? How is the land
watered? What livestock do you own? What help do you employ? What
buildings? Give descriptions. When built? What is a fair cash value of the
land exclusive of perishable improvements? &c., &c. The amount of the loan
requested by John and Caroline Cuthbert was $1,000. [Pictures by
